I went with 0.8mm bases for my 2mm fantasy projects, and it is pretty darn thin; on a hard surface they are hard to pick up. Luckily the game system uses movement trays, so the difficulty is minimized once I get them out of their storage boxes.

For all other 2mm I'm using either magnetic strip, pennies, or 1.5mm bases (either DIY or Litko), they're all about the same thickness. They look ok to me.

On 17 April 2010, I will be hosting a game of Civitates Bellatorum with 2mm figures as part of the Society of Ancients Battle Day.

Carthaginian battleline

It will be a battle of epic proportions, with the 35-50,000 men in each army being modelled on a scale of 1 heavy infantry stand representing about 300 men. At about 40 figures per stand, this is a scale of 1 figure = 7.5 men! There will be four full legions each with 24 stands, a dozen or so elephants, and more Numidians than you can easily count!
