They sometimes buried horses with the riders. I doubt if they were simply battle taxis that the horse would get such treatment.

We have added Viking Heavy Cavalry to our 15mm Viking range - two poses of riders and two poses of horses, sculpted by Mike Broadbent.

Viking Heavy Cavalryman by Khurasan Miniatures

They closely resemble our Huscarls in dress and equipment, except they are fighting with a spear.

Increasingly, historians are receptive to the notion that the Vikings may have fought on horseback on occasion - why not join them, and add some mobility to your Great Heathen Army?

This fellow was painted by Carl Robson, as indeed were all of the Vikings on our webstore.
