The Second Golden Chef Awards

Trophy Chef

Closing Date: May 16th, 2008

We've extended this year's Golden Chef deadline to May 16th! So you still have time to enter. All you need to do is email a picture of a painted Black Scorpion miniature, simple and free!

First prize is £100.00 GBP cash. We also have 3 limited Golden Chef trophy figures up for grabs!

The first Golden Chef awards were a great success last year, the quality of painting was outstanding, so we're repeating it this year with some small improvements.

The basic idea is the same: paint any Black Scorpion single figure with the limited 'resin trophy chef' figure for the top 3, not to mention £100.00 GBP cash first place amongst other prizes! Entry is simply photos via email, and is free.

The main category is called The OpenThe Minor. The Minor has lesser prizes given in product. To enter the Minor, you need to have never won anything in any painting competition either online or otherwise - this includes 2nd, 3rd place or an award of any sort. I reserve the right to move entries from the Minor to the Open. This category is aimed at beginners or up-and-coming painters. So if you got a commendation in last year's Golden Chef, for example, you can't enter the Minor.

So break out the lucky paintbrush, and here's the specifics:

Want to know how you can win one of these, £100.00 GBP cash and other prizes...?

(insert picture)

OK, listen carefully, I shall say this only once...

The second Black Scorpion miniatures painting competition is upon us! The second Golden Chef awards.

The Trophy Chef figure has been specially made for this competition. Cast in resin, it will never be released, and only 3 will be awarded for this year's competition: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd resin trophies.

Also, the overall winner will receive a £100.00 GBP cash prize. (You will need to have a PayPal account to claim this, or live in the U.K. to receive a cheque.)

Commended entries:

Free figures to commended entries:
These are for entries that whilst not quite in the top three, show something that's great. It may be a great base or bit of freehand painting. It's designed to encourage painters with less experience to enter and not feel let down if they've done great work but lost out to the big boys! The free figure will be from the Black Scorpion range, and there are no set number of these to be awarded.

There will be 'highly commended' and 'commended', although the prize is the same.

The Competition: (see below for full rules and guidelines)

The winner will be the best-painted Black Scorpion miniature - simple!

You may enter any single figure from the Black Scorpion range, things like Grongoid and the Biker count as a single figure. This is not a competition for dioramas or multiple figures, it's about painting excellence on a single figure.

Only 1 entry per person.

It must be a 'new' paintjob (i.e., not something previously seen on the web) and it must be all your own work. Obviously, digitally enhancing your photos is not allowed. The competition will be judged by Adam Clarke - sculptor and painter of Black Scorpion miniatures.

Closing date: May 16th, 2008.

How to enter:

To enter, you need to email photos of your entry to blackscorpionminiatures@googlemail.com in JPG format (not mail@blackscorpionminiatures.com, although we can be contacted here).

Also, your name, address, email and PayPal email.

Tell us whether you're entering the Open or the Minor.

We will send a reply to acknowledge we've received your entry.

You cannot enter by sending your figure in the post, so please don't do this!

Forum of Doom: This competition will be running on the Forum of Doom, and this is a good place to share ideas, ask questions or even show your work in progress if you like! There's no rule against this.

Check out the Black Scorpion sections and the competition section.

Ask anything here and Mirlo (the judge) will answer it for all to see. You can always email blackscorpionminiatures@googlemail.com or PM Mirlo if you're secretive about your entry, etc...!

All entries will be shown on the Forum of Doom stating their award, etc., not long after the closing date and judging is complete. Judges comments will be made where appropriate.

Who can enter? Anyone can enter from anywhere in the world.

So get painting, and may the best painter win!

Rules/Terms and Conditions:

The figure must be a Black Scorpion miniature painted by yourself. Conversions are allowed, you can even use small parts from other manufacturers, as long as the finished result is still clearly a Black Scorpion miniature.

Single figure means one base with one clear main character, so yes, he could have a small familiar, crow or similar and still count as a single figure. (The Biker counts as one figure even with both riders on.)

By entering, you agree that Black Scorpion miniatures may use the photos of your entry in any way it sees fit.

The Trophy Chef figure remains copyright Black Scorpion Miniatures and may not be reproduced in any way.

The judge's decision is final. Bribes will be accepted but have no bearing on the results.

The judge reserves the right to disqualify any entry.

Basic photo-editing is allowed for you to submit your photos, but any alteration that improves or changes the quality of the paintjob is not allowed (i.e., Photoshopping...).

It is up to you to take photos that do your entry justice. You will find tutorials and help on the Forum of Doom if you need.

Your entry must be a new paintjob, not something previously seen on the web.

Prizes: All prizes will be sent to the winners within a timely manner. The first prize of £100.00 GBP will be sent to U.K. winners by cheque or PayPal, and only by PayPal to a winner outside the U.K. If you live outside the U.K. and don't have access to PayPal, you will have to claim £100.00 GBP worth of Black Scorpion goods instead of the cash prize.

Any deductions made by PayPal will come out of your £100.00 GBP prize.

The £100.00 GBP prize winner can of course opt for product instead of cash.

Closing Date: You have until 16th May 2008 to submit your photos. To allow for time zones, last-minute submissions will be accepted on the morning of 17th May U.K. time.

The Judge reserves the right to move an entry from the Minor to the Open even if it meets the criteria to enter the Minor - you should take this as a compliment.

The book Legends of the High Seas is not available to be given as product prize. Miniatures only.

By entering, you agree to these terms and conditions.

Guidelines and FAQ:

Genre: You do not need to keep within the genre of the original figure. Why not convert a cowboy into a sci-fi figure? Imagination and ideas are welcome.

Bases: Plinths and decorative scenic bases are allowed and welcomed. The base will be a factor in the judging, though the quality of painting is the main one. Be careful not to 'drown' the figure amongst a huge base, though!

What's the judge looking for? The best painted figure. Quality above all. Conversions, ideas and a dynamic composition can all help (or hinder) your chances, but there's no substitute for good painting.

Can I scratchbuild something in the style of Black Scorpion? No. The figure must be based on an original figure.
