By popular request, I am now selling the battle mat grippers I use under the Deep-Cut cloth mats I use with my participation games at shows – if you have gamed with me, you have gamed on these!
A battle mat gripper provides an excellent underlay for use with the Deep-Cut cloth mats. Slightly tacky, the gridded material prevents the cloth mats from sliding or bunching during play. Each gripper weighs around the same as the equivalent-sized mat (typically less than 0.5kg) and, when not in use, it can be folded up and stored in a bag.
As well as preventing slippage, the gripper underlay is slightly "springy" and provides a comfortable surface to game upon. When used with a cloth mat, it gives a similar effect to gaming on a mouse mat – even better, a battle-mat-and-gripper combination weighs only around a quarter of the weight of the equivalent mouse mat, and so is much easier to transport and store.
