Sci-Fi SkunkWerks, producer of high quality resin starship models and mecha miniatures, is pleased to announce an agreement with Ad Astra Games to produce large-scale (1:1500) resin castings of the iconic ships of the Ten Worlds universe, the setting for the award-winning Attack Vector: Tactical game engine.
David Mihail, Sci-Fi SkunkWerks' president and chief of production, says, "I'm really pleased to have gotten this deal. I've always loved the hard science fiction look of the Ten Worlds spaceships — they're very clearly designed for the space environment, and their 'form follows function' aesthetic appeals to me from my time as a 'Nuke' mechanic in the Navy.
"I chose 1:1500 because it'll allow me to really obsess with the detailing, and there's nothing else on the market like these ships. While the detail Ken and Charles were able to get on those 1:3000 pewter minis is impressive, there's more detail implicit in the game sheets than shows up in the pewter figures. Plus, cast in resin, these should be workable with the Ninja Magic flight adapters for people who want a visually impressive game."
Ken Burnside, president of Ad Astra Games, said, "I've been a fan of David's resin casting for some time, and when he came to me asking for the rights, the details fell into place pretty quickly. My one complaint about David and his casting is that he's an obsessive detail freak (takes one to know one, eh?), and we've spent a lot of time feeding him more and more information about the ships to get them done."
Sci-Fi SkunkWerks is starting from the original CAD files used to make the Ten Worlds miniatures, done by Charles Oines, and is working with Charles to clean up and scale up the models for the larger models. The first two ships will be the Rafik and Wasp, with others following shortly after. Check out SciFiSkunkWerks.com for regular progress reports; David aims to post updated images every couple of weeks, as works progresses.
Pricing on the models is still to be determined; all prices on the site are estimates. Pre-orders for models will open in late May or early June, after Sci-Fi SkunkWerks locks in pricing.
