G'day Matt,

from what I recall its not so much a ratio per fig fielded but battalion level based on a number of stands/elements. A battalion represents 600-800 men and consists of usually 3 bases of infantry.

Some of us local blokes (in Canberra so just up the road from you) use Naps Battles basing (4 foot to a 3/4" x 1") where 3 bases = 1 infantry battalion. Austrians post 1805 can have an extra base representing the bigger 1,000+ man battalion they fielded. Battalions can take a number hits before they are considered broken and therefore removed from play. The more experienced a battalion the more hts it can take.

I have seen some folks use 40mm frontage x 15mm and just last weekend saw some fella's playing with 4-5 bases of 2 figs (maybe 20mm frontage) to represent an infatry battalion. Its designed to allow you a number of options
and whatever figs you mount on these bases.

The SHako Version 1 also had a concept where you could play at a higher divisional level where a single stand represents a battalion (of 4-600 men) thus allowing bigger battles.

Hope this help a bit?

cheers
Gary
