Scratch Builder Monthly is a magazine dedicated to low-budget building of models and terrain. This issue of the magazine includes a step-by-step sculpting guide for a Cthulhoid creature and a cardboard/clay hybrid tank.
Projects vary in complexity. The magazine explores a variety of techniques and unique applications of commonly used materials. Each project is also detailed with many pictures and step-by-step building tutorials.
Many materials used for projects include recycled components or materials purchased from a local dollar store. Builds vary by month, usually a combination of sci-fi or fantasy. The magazine is designed for anyone looking to make their own models with a low budget.
Examples of projects include handmade starships, clay figures, armored vehicles, walkers, folding terrain, and play mats. Handmade models are used by the author in a variety of wargames and RPGs.
This month, I go over some monster creations using paper mache and other materials. A discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of using paper mache for low-budget figure making is also included.
