Pontoonier Miniatures has released phase one of its planned multi-phased release for East Africa.
The first release covers the infantry of the Ethiopian Empire. All are taken from historical photographs from the 1800s and early 1900s, as well as the illustrated newspapers of the time and original Ethiopian artwork.
These figures are designed for the late 1800s. However, many will work for much earlier periods, from late Medieval through the Renaissance, as well as the Victorian period and even up to WWII.
The Ethiopians survived "The Scramble" and fought off English, Belgians, Italians, Somalis, Mahdists, Ottomans, Egyptians and more.
Cavalry, artillery and more to follow, as well as early Italian opponents, so watch this space.
