The Army of Occupation in Ireland 1603-42: Defending the Protestant Hegemony

The Army of Occupation in Ireland 1603-42: Defending the Protestant Hegemony. In 1640, some 8,000 strong, it was geared up for a campaign against Charles I's rebellious Scottish subjects, but it never left Ireland as by the time it was ready to do, so the Scots had defeated the king. It was then reduced to only a third of its previous strength. Penny packet deployments across Ireland helped quell minor problems, but they largely focused on behavior of an army of occupation under control such as collecting fines levied by the law courts and unpaid taxes and requisitioning food when marching from one garrison to another, and then failing to initiate the process by which farmers or shopkeepers were paid. On October 23, 1641, surprise attacks during the Catholic uprising caused almost 25% casualties, but the remainder held onto the principal ports until reinforcements arrived in the following spring. $60.00 USD

The Confederate Military Forces in the Trans-Mississippi West 1861-1865: A Study in Command

The Confederate Military Forces in the Trans-Mississippi West 1861-1865: A Study in Command. Traces the evolution of Confederate command and how it affected the shifting strategic situation and general course of the ACW. Military field operations are discussed as needed, but the emphasis is on the functioning of headquarters and staff-the central nervous system of any military command. This was especially so for the Trans-Mississippi. Explains why this remote department (referred to as Kirby Smithdom after Gen. Kirby Smith) failed to function efficiently, and how and why the war unfolded there as it did. $33.00 USD

The Battle for The Swiepwald: Austria's Fatal Blunder at Koniggratz – The Climactic Battle of the Austro-Prussian War, 3 July 1866

The Battle for the Swiepwald: Austria's Fatal Blunder at Koniggratz – The Climactic Battle of the Austro-Prussian War, 3 July 1866. Translation of Heidrich's brilliant monograph takes us through the fighting, hour by hour and foot by bloody foot. The battle of Koniggratz was the largest battle ever fought in western Europe until 1914, and its political consequences were no less epic – the demise of Austria as a European Great Power, the loss of her historic preeminence among the German nations, and the final, incontestable rise of Prussia. Whether Austria could have prevailed at Koniggratz on 3 July 1866, and salvaged her Great Power status is debatable. What is not is the part the struggle for the Swiepwald played in her ultimate defeat. The insubordination of two Austrian Corps Commanders, and the decision to engage in their epic struggle for control of the Swiepwald forest, would leave 12,000 men dead or wounded within its shattered environs, and the Austrian right flank wide open to the Crown Prince of Prussia's advancing Second Army. $45.00 USD

Kissing Cousins: U.S. Navy Wooden Minesweepers and Variants (YMS, PCS, AGS) and U.S.N and Royal Australian Navy Bomb and Mine Disposal Personnel in the Pacific in World War II, 1944-1945. Late in World War II, the U.S. Navy mandated that 59 wooden-hulled ships laid down in builders' yards as YMS minesweepers, be completed as patrol craft sweepers (PCS). 16 of the YMSs were sent to the Pacific, engaged in combat operations with amphibious forces at Saipan and Tinian, followed by the southern Palau Islands, Leyte and Lingayen Gulf in the Philippines, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. During invasions of Japanese-held islands, PCSs directed waves of assault craft to hostile beaches; then joined YMSs, once finished with minesweeping, in patrol duties. $41.00 USD

Target Saigon 1973-75: Volume 2 – The Fall of South Vietnam: The Beginning of the End, January 1974-March 1975. A year after the Paris peace accord had been signed, on 17 January 1973, peace had not been settled in Vietnam. The North Vietnamese continued their attacks and drastic American aid reduction began to impact heavily on the South Vietnamese ability to wage war. After the fall of Phuoc Long, and without U.S. intervention, the North Vietnamese decided to attack the strategic Central Highlands area where they hoped to destroy the greater part of an ARVN Corps. The battle of Ban Me Thuout would be the pivotal event, leading to the rapid collapse of South Vietnam. Includes 185 black-and-white photos, 39 color profiles, 4 color figures, 3 color maps, and 6 black-and-white maps. $30.00 USD

Includes 144 black-and-white photos, 24 color profiles, and 5 maps. $30.00 USD

Target Saigon 1973-75: Volume 4 – The Final Collapse, April-May 1975. The final volume of Target Saigon examines the final campaigns of the conflict in Vietnam, in which the Communist forces engaged in a highly mechanized war of maneuver. By March 1975, the whole North Vietnamese regular battle corps, some 550,000 troops and 700 tanks, were now amassing at the gates of South Vietnam's capital, and the following fighting led to some of the fiercest fighting of the Vietnam War. Despite being heavily outnumbered, many of the ARVN's units put up a fierce resistance, inflicting heavy casualties upon the advancing Northern forces, in a series of battles that were far from the rout often described. Includes 130 black-and-white illustrations, 130 black-and-white photos, and 6 maps. $30.00 USD
