Old Guy writes:

If you know something about Confederate flags and look at a typical wargame table you will see that there are myriad flags which do not belong on the field of battle.

Most gamers are reliant on flag sheets which cherry pick the better knowns flags or assume you will want a State flag to show where your regiment comes from.

These booklets give you every regimental flag in the army, they inform you whether a state flag was flown (usually not), they show the odd presentation flag, they show the different battleflags, at the end of the day they show who flew what.

I hope that explains "you have to let them fight under their true colors".

Wargame Vault announces the availability of:

Infantry Flags, Hill's Corps, Army of Northern Virginia, Gettysburg 1863

Infantry Flags, Hill's Corps, Army of Northern Virginia, Gettysburg 1863

From Potomac Publications

The three booklets in this series are the definitive references for the flags carried by the Infantry Regiments of the Army of Northern Virginia in mid-1863. If you want your miniatures to represent these regiments, you have to let them fight under their true colors. Confederate regiments generally carried one flag, not two, not state colors, not the Bonnie Blue, at least not in the main armies or theaters. There were one or two notable exceptions and they are shown in these booklets. Despite the Third Bunting Pattern being generally accepted for the ANV during this period, you will be surprised at the variations shown here, especially in Ewell's Corps.
