I look at this and on an intellectual level I know that that much metal for that price is a good deal. But in the back of my head, the small unevolved lizard part of my brain, sees this and then looks at a comparative plastic starter army and goes "Man… I can get twice the force from a plastic starter box, with TWO armies…"

As far as that goes compared to what you get with a games workshop starter set this is about equivalent. A couple of squads, and a support weapons or two.

As far as the comment about armies in the future being small I absolutely see that as true. Whereas perhaps Napoleonic armies would see battles with tens of thousands of people fighting per side, World War II might see A similar engagement with a similar frontage, with maybe half that. modern battles have been even smaller than that. We have Squantz doing jobs that you previously used platoons for an platoon securing areas that previously would be secured like companies. Force multiplication factors very heavily into that. The modern infantry squad has a lot of tools available to it that even company level World War II units would not have had… Hell I could see in the future squads given forward air control and artillery designation assets that right now are still platoon and company level.
