There's a PC reader for Kindle

Yes and no.

Yes because it works on any Windows flavor.

No because it requires an Amazon account and a network connection to reach the Amazon Cloud.

For many simple eBook readers not made by Amazon and without network connection, the only viable methods to upload books is via USB cable or SD card.

This means the mobi format which such readers support and which originally was created by the Mobipocket company before it was purchased by Amazon [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobipocket] is completely useless to them because there is no way you can download a mobi file from Amazon [Why ?!]

I know a Kindle is super cool and cheap by US standards BUT many of those cheap Chinese readers have color LCD displays, support movie and music in popular formats as well as ePub, Mobi, PDF [not very large files] and RTF book files, while costing a 1/4 of the Kindle. Good for wargaming or role playing if you are afraid to loose something more expensive.

A fully indexed, eBook version (formatted for the Amazon Kindle - it won't work on other readers) of our award-winning Song of Drums and Shakos Napoleonic skirmish rules is now available on the Amazon Kindle store. The text has been slightly revised, but this is not a new version of the rules.

Song of Drums and Shakos now available in Kindle format

For those who never heard of SDS, here's our ad copy description:

  • Point system for building up your Squad

  • Playable on a small table (60x60 cm for 15mm)
  • Simple yet subtle command system, with officers and NCOs
  • Two or more players, 30-45 minutes for a full game
