Uniform Guides…

14th Century German Tournament Knight

14th Century German Tournament Knights This collection of medieval plates, dedicated to Saxon knights in tournament dress from the 14th Century, was created in 1889 to celebrate the anniversary of the distinguished Wettin family. The House of Wettin is a dynasty of German counts, dukes, prince-electors and kings that once ruled territories in the present-day German states of Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. The book dates back to 1889, and was printed by Wilhelm Hoffmann of Dresden in a very limited edition of 52cm x 38cm panels. The technique used is the chromolithography method, the lithographer is G. Hohneck, who used the collotype technique to color all the images obtained. $35.00 USD

Nurenberg Tournaments: 1446-1561 Composed of 112 sheets that include depictions of contestants equipped for various tournaments; a Renaissance parade preceding a late form of tournament called a carrousel. This album represent specifically the participants in tournaments known as Gesellenstrechen, or bachelors' jousts, held in Nuremberg (Germany) between 1446 and 1561. We find also depictions of pageant sleighs, some of which were used in a parade held in the winter of 1640-41. The illustrations are probably the work of a Renaissance artist or a Briefmaler, a particular letter painter, who also would have written and embellished official documents and painted rich coats-of-arms. $49.00 USD

Armies of the Mexican Revolution: Uniforms, Equipment & Weapons of the Armed Forces in Mexico 1910-20 182

Armies of the Mexican Revolution: Uniforms, Equipment & Weapons of the Armed Forces in Mexico 1910-20 Gathers information from disparate sources to describe and illustrate the armed forces of Mexico during the revolution, including their organization, uniforms, clothing, equipment and weapons. Includes full-page color plates and selected photographs (many published for the first time). Appearing for the first time were motorcycles, motor trucks, armored cars and the new air power – all made their first tentative appearances. The machinegun played a significant role for the first time in non-colonial warfare, heralding how it would come to dominate future battlefields. Alongside these, wired and wireless communications, barbed wire, searchlights, and trenches established their place on the battlefield in the Mexican Revolution. $59.00 USD

Spanish Soldiers During the Napoleonic Wars: 1797-1808 When the French Revolution overthrew the Bourbons, a land war with France became a danger which the king tried to avoid. The Spanish army was ill-prepared. The officer corps was selected primarily on the basis of royal patronage, rather than merit. About a third of the junior officers had been promoted from the ranks, and they did have talent, but they had few opportunities for promotion or leadership. The rank-and-file were poorly trained peasants. Elite units included foreign regiments of Irishmen, Italians, Swiss and Walloons, in addition to elite artillery and engineering units. Equipment was old-fashioned and in disrepair. The army lacked its own horses, oxen and mules for transportation, so these auxiliaries were operated by civilians, who might run away if conditions looked bad. $35.00 USD

The Uniforms of British Loyalist Volunteer Corps: 1798-1799 Remastered version of the 1799 book reprints the whole and original manual on platoon and weapons exercise, with 87 uniform plates (hand-colored etched title-page and 86 hand-colored etched plates, all by Thomas Rowlandson) covering the Loyal Volunteers of London & Environs, infantry and cavalry.
