1745-1746 Jacobite Flags (Wentworth's List)

Fight at Culloden under these Jacobite banners! All of these flags were captured during the battle and recorded in a list by Major Hugh Wentworth. He also gave unit designations for many of them. This author's interpretations are in parenthesis.

  1. A White Linen Colours, Farquharsons. (Presumably plain white)
  2. White Linen, "Terores Ferio", Chisholms. (The Chisholm motto is Feros Ferio, but both mottoes are provided).
  3. White Colours, plain, said to be the Standard. (No specific image, use #1 or some plain white material).
  4. Blue Silk Colours, "Sursum Tendo". (Motto belongs to Kinloch family; a Kinloch commanded the 2nd Battalion of Lord Ogilvy's Regiment)
  5. Staffs with colours torn off (Not supplied, for obvious reasons)
  6. Staffs with colours torn off (Not supplied, for obvious reasons)
  7. White Silk Colours, Stewart's Arms, "God Save King". (Unknown whether Scottish royal arms or James II/James III royal arms, both are provided)
  8. White Silk, in the corner St. Andrew's Saltire.
  9. White Silk with Red Saltire.
  10. Blue Silk, Lovat Arms, "Sine Sanguine Victor".
  11. White Silk with Blue Saltire.
  12. Piece of Blue Silk with St. Andrew's Saltire, "Commit the Work to God." (This reconstruction closely follows 17th Century Covenanter style. Unit unknown)
  13. White Linen Jaik with Red Saltire.
  14. One of Lord Lovat's Camp Colours. (Based on the testimony of Thomas Fraser, who described it as "the crest of Lord Lovat's family, the deer's head.")

Flags come as 33 high-quality PNG images: obverse, reverse (where applicable), and complete flag images.
