Wargames, Soldiers & Strategy Issue 61 in UK Stores

I thought the review of CS Grant's "The Wolfenbuttel War" was exceptional. Exceptional in that the reviewer had clearly never read "The Wargame" by Charles Grant – and hence had no idea of the back story of the Vereinigte Frei Stadt and the Grand Duchy of Lorraine. While having failed to read one of the seminal wargaming books shouldn't be a disqualification for a reviewer (and doesn't make his comments about the book itself invalid) you've got to wonder how they find their reviewers…

But overall it was a good issue – I've no interest in colonial wargaming whatsoever (which is always a risk of these themed issues) but I enjoyed it. WSS is solidly ahead of both Battlegames (which seems to have less and less of interest these days) and WI in terms of content and is thus firmly on my "buy" list.
