Ragnarok: Heavy Metal Combat in the Viking Age - Morpheus Engine 1 Campaign-driven skirmish game in which players form a Viking war clan seeking to prove itself worthy of becoming the new pantheon. The use of a mechanic called Godspark means that battles are no longer determined by merely striking an opponent and dealing damage. Instead, warriors will be pushing, throwing and crashing their opponents around the battlefield, making their very environment a weapon. As the war clans develop, they may gain glorious new powers that will bring them closer to godhood, or win the respect of the denizens of the realms, allowing them to bring dire wolves, Dwarves, and even the dreaded Giants into their war clans. With strategic gameplay and epic storytelling, players must write their own sagas and tell of how their war clans have, through blood and steel, clawed their way up from ruin to stand before the halls of Valhalla. $35.00 USD

SCAPA 1919: The Archaeology of a Scuttled Fleet

Scapa 1919: The Archaeology of a Scuttled Fleet The German High Seas Fleet was one of the most powerful naval forces in the world, and had fought the pride of the Royal Navy to a stalemate at the Battle of Jutland in 1916. After the armistice was signed, ending fighting in World War I, it surrendered to the British and was interned in Scapa Flow pending the outcome of the Treaty of Versailles. In July 1919, the entire fleet attempted to sink itself in the Flow to prevent it being broken up as war prizes. Of the 74 ships present, 52 sunk and 22 were prevented from doing so by circumstance and British intervention. Reveals what became of the warships that were scuttled, examining the circumstances behind the loss of each ship, and reconciling what was known at the time to what the archaeology is telling us today. $40.00 USD

An Englishman Abroad: SOE Aagent Dick Mallaby's Italian Missions – 1943-45 Based on 20 years of research, Gianluca Barneschi has uncovered the true story of a real-life James Bond. The debonair Special Operations Executive agent Richard 'Dick' Mallaby was the first Briton to be sent to Italy as an SOE operative, parachuted unceremoniously into Lake Como in August 1943. Arrested and initially tortured by the Italian authorities, he managed to sweet-talk his way out of trouble, and helped Marshal Pietro Badoglio and King Victor Emmanuel III escape to the Allied lines. He also helped negotiate the armistice with Italy, for which he was awarded the Military Cross. He was back in action in 1945, when he crossed into Fascist-controlled northern Italy from Switzerland, but was swiftly captured and interrogated by the S.S. Narrowly avoiding a firing squad once again, he helped to secure the surrender of 800,000 German forces in Italy in May 1945. $25.00 USD

Wade McClusky and the Battle of Midway During the Battle of Midway in June 1942, U.S. Navy dive bomber pilot Wade McClusky proved himself to be one of the greatest pilots and combat leaders in American history, but his story has never been told – until now. This book is the story of exactly the right man being in exactly the right place at exactly the right time. It was Wade McClusky who remained calm when the Japanese fleet was not where it was expected to be. It was he who made the counter-intuitive choice to then search to the north instead of to the south. It was also McClusky who took the calculated risk of continuing to search even though his bombers were low on fuel and may not have enough to make it back to the Enterprise. His ability to remain calm under enormous pressure played a huge role in the U.S. Navy winning this decisive victory that turned the tide of war in the Pacific. $35.00 USD

VIETNAM: Rumor of War

VIETNAM: Rumor of War OSS: Vietnam shows the conflict in a playable yet historical manner. Players have the ability to move all their units once. However, they may choose to move those units in any of several impulses, if they can afford the supply cost to do so. The opposing player will have to maintain adequate reserves to counter this variable impulse movement. The Operational Scale System (OSS) is meant to be a fast, accessible way of playing, and finishing, larger games. Finally playing a large monster game will no longer require hundreds of hours – now, you can easily complete a game of this size in a weekend. Players will activate HQs, fight off insurgents, bomb and disrupt the infrastructure of their opponents with the unique means available to each side. Whether by bombing raids or insurgents, how your side maintains the ability to wage war will be the key to victory. All the while, players must watch how their actions influence events far from the battlefield.

Hearts and Minds: 1965 to 1975 – Wargame Third edition is an uncomplicated approach to a very complicated conflict. Eight scenarios introduce players to U.S. involvement in Southeast Asia, including a scenario after the U.S. withdrew from Vietnam, a full campaign scenario, as well as high solitaire capability. Players appreciate the ability to start in any year of the war they wish and fight to the end of any other year of the war. The game provides a comprehensive historical approach using mechanics that include guerrilla warfare, faction differentiation, political turmoil, and veteran advantages. Card-driven, area-based design with low counter density and a much simplified combat system. Each scenario represents a year and players have the flexibility of starting in any year of the war and ending in any later year of the war.

Uses three card decks: a red deck (communist), a blue deck (Allied), and a black deck (interchangeable). Prior to every game, half of the black deck is shuffled into each of the red and blue decks, ensuring a different game every time. Cards indicate the amount of RPs (Resource Points) that may be spent or banked, a historic situation, and its game effects. Certain cards are year-specific. Within each Red and Blue Deck are a number of Campaign cards that may be chosen by each player allowing increased abilities but only in a predetermined area.

ENEMY WATERS: Royal Navy, Royal Canadian Navy, Royal Norwegian Navy, U.S. Navy, and other Allied Mine Forces battling the Germans and Italians in World War II

Enemy Waters: Royal Navy, Royal Canadian Navy, Royal Norwegian Navy, U.S. Navy, and other Allied Mine Forces battling the Germans and Italians in World War II When Britain declared war on Germany in September 1939, the Royal Navy was deficient in minelayers needed to try to hold enemy forces at bay and out of its home waters. Turning first to the Merchant Navy, it requisitioned a liner and two ferries for this use, and a dozen destroyers and submarines were also converted to carry mines. Later, six fast minelaying cruisers joined the force.

When Italy entered the war on the Axis side in June 1940, the situation became dire. As U-boats continued to sink shipping in the North Sea and around the British Isles, the Italian Fleet and German and Italian Air Forces controlled the central Mediterranean. Royal Air Force Bomber and Coastal Command planes took up mining, as did old Swordfish biplanes of the Fleet Air Arm. Joining in the fight were units of exiled navies, including the Dutch minelayer Willem van der Zaan, Free French submarine Rubis, and the Norwegian 52nd Motor Launch Flotilla.

U.S. Navy mine forces supported the invasion of French North Africa in late 1942, subsequent landings in Italy, and the invasions of Normandy and southern France. The Canadian 31st Minesweeping Flotilla was at Normandy, and joined in later operations. Includes 145 photographs, maps, and diagrams; appendices; and an index. $41.00 USD

And Don't Forget the Magazines…

World at War #66: Graf Spee Operational-tactical solitaire game that puts you in command of the KMS Graf Spee, the German battlecruiser that made a historic epic voyage through the South Atlantic during the opening days of World War II. The player must accomplish a specific 'objective' to win the game that will be generated at random at the start of each scenario or the campaign game. You must manage the various outfittings and functions of the KMS Graf Spee. As you fight your way throughout the South Atlantic and potentially the Indian Ocean, you will encounter various Allied warships, merchantmen, and unexpected opportunities and objectives. German ships in the game are shown in detail, with the Allied ships shown in a more abstract manner. Each turn represents one full day. Nautical spaces are about 100 nautical miles apart with the game system using point-to-point movement. Most warship counters represent one ship each. Components: 22x34-inch map, 176 die-cut counters, Magazine. $40.00 USD
