NEITHER UP NOR DOWN: The British Army and the Campaign in Flanders 1793-1795

Neither Up Nor Down: The British Army and the Campaign in Flanders 1793-1795 Britain's war against Revolutionary France is today a largely forgotten prelude to the Napoleonic Wars. The campaign in Flanders was Britain's attempt to stem the power of the new republic as it threatened to engulf its neighbors, but it was to end in disaster. Includes 51 black-and-white illustrations, 32 black-and-white maps. Chronicles the many battles and unraveling of the First Coalition as the varying fortunes of the combatants saw their armies march to and fro across the fields of Flanders. A weak and ill-equipped army led by the Duke of York struggled daily with the terrain and climate of the Low Countries, as well as the competing aims of its allies and the unrealistic expectations of its government. $55.00 USD

Napoleon's German Division in Spain – Volume Three: Frankfurt Infantry Regiment and Division Princiere at Danzig Includes 11 maps, 21 orders of battle, and nine tables. The Frankfurters were not part of the German Division in the sense of the tactical command structure of the forces fighting under French command in Spain. However, they were the only other German regiment fighting alongside the French. Its history of trials, tribulations, deprivation, isolation and destruction completes the accounts of the members of that nation in Napoleon's service in the Iberian Peninsula. Battles involved include Talavera, Ocana, Vitoria, Bidassoa and Nive. This volume also includes the Frankfurt Infantry Regiment's service in the Russian campaign of 1812 and the Siege of Danzig. Also includes uniform details. $48.00 USD

Shorncliffe Lectures – Volume 6: Adam's Light Brigade (52nd, 71st & 95th Rifles) in the Netherlands and Waterloo, 1813-15 Includes nine figure illustrations, 28 maps, 21 orders of battle, and 19 tables. Complete re-write of the earlier Shorncliffe Lectures of Volume 2. It explores Sir Thomas Graham's campaign in liberating the Netherlands from December 1813 to May 1814. A mixture of new recruits and convalescent veterans of the 2/52nd and 95th Rifles were dispatched from Shorncliffe in Kent. These men remained in the Netherlands and formed Adams's Light Brigade at Waterloo. These were among the most experienced troops available to Wellington. $33.00 USD

In particular, two extensive Brigade Order books from Vivian's 6th Cavalry Brigade, plus more new accounts including officers of the 52nd and 32nd Foot, commentaries on the 1st Foot Guards, and two lengthy transcripts of court martials of two officers from the 32nd for conduct at Waterloo. $40.00 USD

The Waterloo Archive, Volume XII: British Sources Further contemporary accounts including James Smithies of 1st Dragoons, John Luard of 16th Dragoons, and Thomas Taylor of 10th Hussars. The infantry include Mathew Clay and less-well-known accounts from the Light Brigade. But this volume also includes order books of the period, including those by Colonel Charles Broke for the daily movements of the cavalry, and also General Adam's Brigade Orders for the Light Division, plus others. $40.00 USD

Wellington at Bay: The Battle of Villamuriel, 25 October 1812 The Battle of Villamuriel was the largest engagement of Wellington's retreat from Burgos in 1812. Twice as many men were involved as in the better-known actions at Villadrigo/Venta del Pozo two days earlier. Includes twelve black-and-white maps, five color plates, three black-and-white and six color photos, numerous tables. Improves significantly on previous accounts in the campaign histories by Napier, Fortescue, Oman and Divall. Archival sources from Great Britain, France, Spain, and Portugal have been used to build a coherent and balanced account. The orders of battle are detailed, and the military experience of both the commanders and their units is provided. Detailed maps of the deployment of both forces throughout the action are provided. A detailed breakdown of the casualties on both sides is also given. $40.00 USD

Trinidad 1990: The Caribbean's Islamist Insurrection On 27 July 1990, a radical Afro-Trinidadian Islamist group, the Jamaat-al-Muslimeen, led by Imam Yasin Abu Bakr – an Afro-Trinidadian convert to Islam previously known as Lennox Philip, and a former policeman – launched an armed insurrection with 113 of his followers. Their attack quickly sacked the entire leadership of the local government: the then-Prime-Minister of Trinidad, Arthur N.R. Robinson, most of his cabinet, and several opposition members of Parliament, plus the staff of the government-owned television and radio networks were held hostage for six dramatic days. The parliament building, television, and radio studios were occupied by armed insurgents and were severely damaged during the standoff with security forces that ensued. The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service collapsed within the first hour of the insurrection, abandoning the capital city, Port of Spain, and the military took hours to assemble a viable fighting force. This book details the background, the insurrection, and the military operation that crushed it. Illustrated with maps, color profiles, and more than 100 authentic photographs from local archives. $30.00 USD
