these are NOT the rules. The "Primer" is a book about how to use the rules by giving extended examples of play about some of most important and complex concepts that give players the most problems when they try to play the game. It also gives advice on tactics and other things so the players can get the most out of game. I have a number of games in the Battles in the Age of Reason series and I've only played one of them (Lobositz) for any appreciable time. The learning curve is really steep on this game system so the Primer is a welcomed addition.

The BAR Primer is an enjoyable, user-friendly source for those who want to learn the Battles from the Age of Reason (BAR) game system or those who want to improve their knowledge of the system. Included in the BAR Primer are illustrated, easy-to-read explanations and examples of all of the most important BAR rules. There is a section on BAR tactics and an invaluable programmed instruction portion that will allow gamers to gradually and painlessly learn the system. The BAR Primer also includes information for updating all previous games to the BAR v3 rules and a section of charts that are exclusive to the BAR Primer.

This Second Edition of the BAR Primer has corrected all known errata and made a few clarifications. For new material, there is a section on "Limited Activations" as well as BAR Optional Rules. For this Second Edition, all the charts from the BAR Primer have been collected together for easy printing. This PDF file is formatted so that if it is printed with a duplex printer, it will print the proper front and back pages together.

Update and errata counters for all previous BAR games were included as part of the original BAR Primer. These are (obviously) not included with this PDF file, but they can still be purchased.
