I'll second "Betrothed of Death"; MAA 161 "The Spanish Foreign Legion" is a nice introduction. Vincent Sheehan's "An American Among the Riffi" gives a good picture from the other side.

We have modeled the Spanish Foreign Legion in the distinctive uniform designed for it by its founder, Colonel Jose Millan Astray.
