New Sassanid Shields

Phil Hendry Fezian writes:

Yes, that's one of the small ones – so not the 'Pavise' that the text of the Osprey implies it is – it's about 1 m tall and half a metre wide. There's also no evidence, on that shield, of any colour other than its natural wood and leather. Not untypical of Osprey books methinks!

Phil Hendry Fezian writes:

I have, for some time, been a little unsatisfied with the historical accuracy of the shields generally supplied with 28mm Sassanid Persian infantry figures, so I decided to do something about it. I had Paul Hicks sculpt two 28mm scale replacement shields - one large, and one small - following details published in The Excavations at Dura-Europos, 1928 to 1937. Final Report VII: The Arms and Armour and other Military Equipment by Simon James. Then I had Matt Hingley of Elhiem Figures cast them up for me.

I have decided, in order to try to recoup my costs, and as a service to my fellow enthusiasts, to offer these shield models for sale. They're cast in pewter, and come in packs of ten shields priced as follows:

SH01 Large Shields £3.00 GBP
SH02 Small Shields £2.00 GBP

Please visit my site for more information, and for details of how to order. I will try to ship orders in a timely fashion, but I'm new to this and don't know how well they will sell, so I am only holding small stocks, at least to begin with. However, Matt is proving to be pretty speedy about casting fresh stocks for me. So far, I have managed to ship every order within seven days, but please bear with me in case demand outstrips supply. If that happens, I promise to keep customers informed.
