TMP member Jay Arnold, here. I'm leading an effort to provide miniatures wargames to troops deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq. A number of fellow TMP members are helping me in this effort and now, I'm asking you to help us, too.
As a gamer deployed to Afghanistan, I longed for a way to pursue my hobby. I was able to get the occasional fix with card and boardgames. But, I always wanted to play a miniatures game.
I've heard of gaming groups in Bagram and other allied bases popping up, and would like to help these gamers pursue their hobby in a way I couldn't.
Our aim is simple: provide everything necessary for an entertaining gaming experience, with a minimal amount of preparation on the part of the lucky recipient. To this end, I'm accepting donations of enough fully painted figures for two sides to play a game, rules, dice and accessories, a case for storage and transport, and pre-printed paper terrain.
Donations will be grouped together into logical sets, a recipient selected and sent to help with morale, welfare and recreation efforts for our fellow gamers deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq.
We currently have three projects under way, in need of a few finishing touches. One is earmarked for U.K. troops, two destined for U.S. troops.
I urge you to take a moment to go to my website for this effort at sites.google.com/site/gamesfortroops and see how you can help. If you know of a gamer who is deployed and would appreciate one of these projects, please let me know. We have three in the works that need recipients!
I look forward to hearing from you with your pledges, name of a potential recipient, and ideas to make this effort better.
