Black Sands

A new game scenario for the Iron Cross wargame! (Compatible with both editions!)

Iwo Jima Yellow, Beach, Northem Sector, February 19, 1945: After a brief period of American consolidation on the beach, Japanese forces launched countermeasures. Around 10:00, heavy machineguns, mortars, and artillery began targeting the crowded beach. Additionally, once Marines crossed the beach, they encountered steep 15-ft-high slopes of soft volcanic ash, providing poor footing and no protection from enemy fire. However, the ash did partially absorb fragments from Japanese artillery. Mount Suribachi's Japanese heavy artillery had reinforced steel doors that opened to fire and quickly closed to avoid counter-fire, making it challenging for American units to eliminate them. Compounding the difficulties, the bunkers were linked to a complex tunnel system, allowing Japanese troops to reoccupy cleared bunkers swiftly, catching the Marines off guard and causing casualties.

The Iwo Jima hell was started.
