Thank you for all of your queries, and I'm sorry that I need to admit that I did make a mistake in the text of the category page on the Sally 4th Website and my TMP news submission… so…

Holes for 2p bases are 26mm, holes for 1p bases are 21mm, holes for GW style round bases are 25mm and I have now added a 30mm diameter 35 slot option for Warmachine players and 20mm square – 70 slots and 25mm square 48 slots for figures mounted individually on GW style square plastic bases.

I did make a mistake on heights in news item.. boxes are available in 35mm, 52.5mm, 70mm and 100mm heights.

As inserts are seperate to floor of box it is very easy, and a great idea to glue a sheet of steel paper or magnetic sheet in between to give you 110% security. Saying that, I originally designed these for my own use and over Easter holidays my son and I used these boxes to transport our 28mm Saga armies in the boot of the car from Yorkshire to Sussex coast to use while on holiday with no damage or movement. We mounted figures on 2mm Sally 4th MDF bases and used a 3mm deep insert.

I am also very happy to design and manufacture custom inserts for boxes, so if you want an insert that matches Canadian pennies or Martian Groats let me know and I can add it to list.

We have also had a number of customers who have ordered Sally 4th Rectangular or Irregular Movement Trays and then have asked us to make inserts to fit. This works very well as you can keep figures in movement trays and then fit the whole movement tray into a slot in the box.

I acknowledge that their are loads of other great figure storage options out their, I've got many – many Figures in Comfort trays and bags myself.. however it was not quite what I was looking for in this instance, so I designed this and am happy to make it available to anyone else who's interested.

Overseas orders… At the moment we have no overseas retailers and supply mail order ourselves, whoever we are interested in supplying retailers overseas and are in negotiations with some already, so if you are a retailer and are interested in our products let me know.

Regards, Chris Abbey

Like most wargamers, over the years I have struggled with the issue of figure storage. We invest a great deal of time and money buying, preparing, painting and basing miniatures, so need to store them in the best way possible, taking in to account some of the following factors:

Space
Most of us, even if we have a dedicated wargames room, have a finite amount of space to store figures and other gaming accessories.
Protection
We want to protect our figures from damage and dust.
Portability
We need to protect wargames figures from where they are stored to our wargames table, or take them with us to a friend's house or the local wargames club.
Flexibility
Many collections include single-based figures and figures in different scales.

I've spent a long time thinking about this, and have come up with a storage system that I'm using for my own collection of single-based 20mm and 28mm miniatures and smaller scale (6mm/10mm and 15mm figures.

Sally 4th Warchests

Warchest

The Warchest has been designed as a mix-and-match system, so that you buy just what you need for your personal needs. The system is made up of boxes, lids and inlays. Size: 245mm x 183mm

Boxes
The boxes are designed with a lip, to make them easy to lift, and can be used as a stand-alone system or fit into IKEA wooden drawers. Boxes are available in three heights.

50mm high
Great for 6mm figures and 10mm/15mm/20mm infantry.
75mm high
Great for 10mm/15mm cavalry
100mm high
Great for 28mm figures

Lids
These have been designed with a deep lip above and below to facilitate safe and efficient stacking, and so that the lid can be used as a mini tray to carry figures to the games table and put casualties on during the game.
Warchest
Inlays
Available in 2mm and 3mm MDF. Glue them to bottom of the box to protect miniatures from movement-related damage.

  1. 15mm diameter bases x 140
  2. 1p bases x 70
  3. 20mm bases x 70
  4. 2p bases x 48
  5. Round GW-style bases x 48
  6. Warmaster units x 12
  7. FoW Medium bases x 18 and four small
  8. FoW Large bases x 9 and four small

If there is an inlay tray that is not listed, drop us an email and we can add one to your specification. Sally 4th manufacturers a full range of rectangular, circular and hexagonal bases, as well as regular- and irregular-shaped movement trays. We can easily design inlays to match these.

Benefits

These are very space-efficient, and have been designed to stack very securely with a deep lipped lid, and provide good protection from dust and to damage in transit by holding figures upright in custom-cut inserts.
