Confronting Napoleon: Levin von Bennigsen's Memoir of the Campaign in Poland, 1806-1807: Volume I – Pultusk to Eylau. Translated for the first time into English, this memoir by General Levin von Bennigsen offers unique insights into the epic confrontation between the French and Russians in Poland during the winter of 1806-1807, including the terrible carnage at Eylau. Reveals the extent of command dissension at the Russian headquarters, discusses operational and logistical challenges confronting the Russian army, and underscores the heroism of the Russian soldiers. During a grueling campaign, Bennigsen evaded Napoleon's enveloping maneuvers during a five-day, all-out pursuit that brought the two sides to the snow-covered fields of Eylau. Here, over 140,000 French and Russian soldiers fought a terrible battle that claimed over 40,000 casualties and left thousands of dead and wounded littering the frozen slope. A Hanoverian by birth, General Levin von Bennigsen spent 45 years in the Russian army, earning a reputation as a capable officer. Includes 32 black-and-white illustrations and seven maps. $43.00 USD

The Tale Untwisted: General George B. McClellan, the Maryland Campaign, and the Discovery of Lee's Lost Orders. The discovery of Robert E. Lee's Special Orders No. 191 outside of Frederick, Maryland, on September 13, 1862, is one of the most important and hotly disputed events of the American Civil War. For more than 150 years, historians have debated if George McClellan, commander of the Union Army of the Potomac, dawdled after receiving a copy of the orders before warily advancing to challenge Lee's forces atop South Mountain. Explains in exhaustive fashion how McClellan in fact moved with uncharacteristic energy to counter the Confederate threat and take advantage of Lee's divided forces, seizing the initiative and striking a blow in the process that wrecked Lee's plans and sent his army reeling back toward Virginia. $19.00 USD

Covers the Battle of Arras, sometimes called The Forgotten Battle, that was wedged between the battles of the Somme and Passchendaele. Shows us how infantry tactics had improved, and how the use of artillery had become a fine art in supporting the men as they attacked; how a preliminary artillery bombardment left the German defenders shattered, but also created the conditions that would hinder any kind of rapid movement once the first lines were broken. The key role of the Royal Flying Corps, how tanks were used, and the vital role of support units such as the Royal Engineers are all examined in detail. Includes 16 pages of color illustrations and maps, 35 black-and-white photos, 43 black-and-white maps, and three tables. $70.00 USD

The RAF's Cross-Channel Offensive: Circuses, Ramrods, Rhubarbs and Rodeos 1941-1942. In November 1940, Marshal of the Royal Air Force Hugh Montague Trenchard showed up again at the Air Ministry and proposed that the RAF should Lean Towards France – that it should go on the offensive. The RAF would, claimed Trenchard, win the resulting battle of attrition. One of the main outcomes of the RAF's new offensive stance was the introduction of the Circus sorties. These were attacks undertaken by a small force of bombers with a powerful fighter escort. They were intended to lure enemy fighters into the air so that they could be engaged by RAF fighters, the primary objective being the destruction of Luftwaffe fighters, followed by the protection of the bombers from attack. Further developments of the Circus missions were Ramrods, Rhubarbs, and Rodeos, all of which were variations on the same theme. $50.00 USD
