The second U.S.S. Comfort (AH-6) was launched 18 March 1943 by Consolidated Steel Corporation, Wilmington, California, under a Maritime Commission contract; sponsored by First Lieutenant E. Hatchitt, U.S.A.M.C.; transferred to the Navy the same day; converted to a hospital ship by Bethlehem Steel Company, San Pedro, California; and commissioned 5 May 1944 with Commander Harold Farnham Fultz in command.

USS Comfort

Base model from Shapeway's Bill's Models. All vehicles and landing craft are John Gibbons at Pico. Red Cross decals are from Dave Winfrey at I-94 Enterprises. Brass railings on upper deck are Tom's Model Works. All masts were created with Evergreen plastic lower sections and soldered brass wire uppers. Boarding ladders are in housed positions and once were cable binding straps.
