John Hussey Posts Libel Case Papers

Quite a bit, actually. The dispute originated over the main thesis of Hofschroer's book on Waterloo, which alleged Wellington knew of (and ignored) Napoleon's attack on the Prussians quite early in the day. This is a subject of keen interest to many wargamers. Hussey has methodically documented a rebuttal to Hofschroer's argument, and never acted churlishly. I wish he had taken the high road and let Hofschroer be his own worst enemy, because I think Hussey won the argument in a rout. But I believe part of the grievance has to do with a professional journal rejecting a Hussey submission, and courts don't make libel judgments lightly, so Hofschroer has no one but himself to blame…

One of our readers informs me that John Hussey - author of Marlborough, Hero of Blenheim - has posted to his website various papers concerning his libel case against Peter Hofschröer.

Court papers

According to the court documents, Mr. Hofschröer was required to pay £10,000.00 GBP to Mr. Hussey, and to post an apology for defamatory statements made in 2005 on the Napoleonic Series Forum.
