I read through threads like these and wonder why everyone gets all frothed and festered up. Is FOW or GW or any company really worth the blood pressure spike?

What's to stop folks from smoothing out the kinks with a couple house rules? Or writing your own rule set based on the core mechanics? Or – heaven forbid – finding another rule set that works better for you? Maybe they actually fixed some things. Maybe they didn't. Either way, none of this is mandatory. Or even that important.
