The Siege of Monstral is a dinner-table-sized Victorian Science-Fiction 28mm skirmish game for three to six players, taking place in the borderlands between of three rival nations using our free QILS system.
The game provides orders of battle, the tactical laydown and print-ready terrain flats (plus an optional simple, box-fold 3D fortress) for a classic siege combat grinder. The intrigue and backstabbing between the "allies" and the uncertainty of certain operational deception by the "aggressors" gives lots of replay value from this scenario. We even throw in two optional versions of lousy weather, just to make it fun!
From the intro…
The Cinnabarians and Celadonians have long been, well, shall we say, contentious neighbors. The only point on which they see eye-to-eye is their contempt for the upstart Zaffreans with whom they share their eastern borders. Over time their rivalry with the Zaffreans has festered into a thick hatred, laced with bile and wormwood. Occasionally, it spills over into limited engagements by either the Cinnabarians or the Celadonians. Under the pretense of self-defense (as the Cinnabarians and Celadonians see it), the Zaffreans have built a fort on the west side of Monstral, the only navigable port on the Onyx Sea. For the past fifty years, both the Cinnabarians, Celadonians and Zaffreans have politically and economically contested to establish dominance over the port. But now, this militarization near a traditionally loosely controlled free port, the chokehold on trade in the area, has changed the mix.
This is a great little game for conventions (we even help you convert the scenario to a different game system, if you want), and it's up to your players and their imaginations whether this is an enjoyable tactical puzzle, a back-stabbing grindhouse, or an over-the-top Duck Soup battle with voltaic guns and steam suits.
