About Me

Editor of the monthly Miniature Wargames with Battlegames magazine, author of "the Wargaming Compendium" published by Pen & Sword in 2013, and a wargamer since 1969. In the intervening years, I've had a go at just about everything, but my main focus is my large collection of Spencer Smiths representing nations from an entirely fictitious world set in the 18th century. I'm also collecting: 1/72 plastic ancients (Greek, Persian, Roman, Barbarian) for use with my own rules; 6mm Baccus armies in order to stage Salamanca, 1812; 10mm Pendraken for the ACW; 20mm Napoleonic armies for smaller actions; Black Scorpion Tombstone and pirate figures; GHQ micro-armour for Blitzkrieg Commander in the Western Desert; and Baccus 6mm ancients for Warmaster. I also have Warhammer Fantasy Empire, Bretonnians, Skaven and Goblins, but I use Mantic's "Kings of War" rules to play with them!. I'm a recent and enthusiastic convert to Commands & Colors Ancients, played both as a board game and as a miniatures game. My first book, "The Wargaming Compendium", published by Pen & Sword, is aimed at extolling the virtues of our marvellous hobby to newcomers and veterans alike, and includes my own horse and musket era rules that I have developed over the last few of years, as well as rules for gladiatorial combat and Wild West skirmishes.
