Since 1965
Savage & Soldier is one of the oldest hobby magazines still in print, and is completely dependent upon reader support for articles. While the main thrust of this magazine is Colonial 19th/20th century, S&S will consider other Colonial actions regardless of the time period (just as previous editors have). Articles, letters, questions and we hope answers, items for sale (Colonial pleas, from books to figures... but keep it short), long and short reviews of books, period articles from other magazines and journals, movies, and figures.
S&S mails quarterly, and is historical-article-oriented and text-heavy. Articles can be almost any length, artwork, maps, uniform drawings, weapons data, unit/army organizational charts and OBs should accompany articles. If you need help with any of the artwork, please contact me and we’ll see how we can help out.
After a hiatus of ten years (1995-2006), S&S is back with former authors Douglas Johnson (founding editor), Hans Van Stockhausen, Ron Vaughan, and John Dunn; as well as new authors (well, to S&S) Jose Alvarez, Mike Blake, Uwe Wild, Frontis Wiggins, and Andrew Preziosi.
An annual poll of subscribers determines the year's two best articles. The authors of these articles receive suitable prizes relating to the Colonial Era, and the winners and their prizes are announced in the first issue of the following year.
