"Arrivant de Dalmatie, Marmont séjournait, depuis le 6 juin, à Laibach, pour renforcer ses troupes et atteler son artillerie Son corps d’armée (divisions Clausel et Montrichard) compte alors environ 9.000 hommes. Le rôle assigné par Napoléon est de se glisser entre les forces de Gyulai et celles de Chasteler, qui viennent de Styrie, et de marcher sur Graz."
