Abbreviation of 'Hordes of the Things', a set of quick-play fantasy wargames rules by Phil Barker, Sue Laflin Barker and Richard Bodley Scott.

The name is taken from the four part BBC Radio 4 fantasy adventure series "Hordes of the Things".
