Dip
Painting technique involving dipping the figure into a pigment and varnish mix to give a shading effect and a protective coat. Commercial dipping products are available, although many painters prefer to mix their own blend using inks, liquid wax products, etc. The original article on this procedure can be found here link Sometimes referred to as Magic Dip. Many people will use a brush to apply the dip as it can get messy if you put the figure in the liquid and then you shake it off.
