Why do I want to put myself through this..... well, in simple terms I love painting and gaming Mechs. Going back to my schooldays and the Robotech Farpoint series, through Animated Battletech up to the newest Gundam and Evangelion episodes, I have been fascinated by Mecha. Hell, you are looking at someone who spent a fortune trying to collect the entire series of Battletech CCG, didn't make it though....gave up on Arsenal.
I have played Battletech since Version 1 (but no clickies), Heavy Gear, Robotech and Mekton (both as RPG's and tabletop games), Mecha, Mecha Carnage and countless other anime-inspired rulesets. But have finally settled on playing Classic Battletech (pre-Clan) and Mekton.
As for my painting, I am what in the past would have been called a "journeyman." I paint gaming miniatures for a living, and collectors figures for my own entertainment. I would not class myself as an expert or even claim to be among the best. But thankfully people seem to like my work enough to keep coming back with new orders (my Bank Manager really appreciates you all).
I paint gaming figures in a fairly high-contrast style, using strong colours and strong shading/highlighting. My style is often called "cartoonish." Over the years, I have been commissioned to write several "how to paint..." type articles, the last being for July's Fictional Reality. I try to use a relaxed and easygoing writing style.
Am I allowed links? If so, you can find my work at displacedminiatures.com/robh, and Coat of Arms is listed here on TMP as a painting service.
If you vote for me as one of the finalists in this event, I will do my best to demonstrate my painting style and methods. Maybe show you a few new hints and tips on painting and basing Mecha, and give you some entertaining articles.
Go on, vote for me, please...
