I have been a wargammer for 25+ years, starting with boardgames and progressing to miniatures. Over those years, I have played many different sets of rules covering almost every period for which miniatures are made.

When I play a new set of rules, I never made hasty judgments but instead play numerous times before deciding if I like them.

Ultimately, I want a feel for the period, playability, speed (I like to keep players fully engaged and not sitting around), and fun.

Pick Kevin and I to review the rules, and we will fully test them and honestly report their strengths and weaknesses.

For those about to die we salute you! Hail Caesar!

Hmmm? Me, a reviewer of a rule set?

I've only been a historical gamer for a few years. What insights would I have in reviewing a rule set?

I’ve been a reviewer on another ruleset and that was a lot of fun.

Do I have the vast knowledge of most old-time gamers? Will I go into the game with a jaundiced eye as I’ve played other games and nothing could compete for with that or those rulesets? Would I be a nitpicker and pick out every historical problem, calculation problem, spelling error, punctuation error, grammatical error, until there’s nothing to pick but the bones from my fingers as I’ve marked so much in red there’s no flesh left?

NO!

That would not be me. I read rulesets and play games to see if they're fun. That is and will always be what I look for the most in a ruleset.

If you want to know if a game is fun, and will be enjoyed by your club, wife (yes, I said wife), kids, and anyone else who we can trap into this hobby, then pick me and my buddy Jim as we take you on a wild ride learning about the lives and deaths of your favorite gladiators in the miniatures game Hail Caesar!
