Empires Review Contest Entries

I'm an experienced reviewer of games; my work has been published in Wargames Monthly magazine, RPGNet, Paper Wars magazine, and GAMES magazine (I will have another piece appearing in NOV 2003).

I really am developing a craze for 15mm fantasy at the moment, bottom feeding on Ebay to get Battlesystem, Black Raven and Rank and File figures. I'd like to try some Hobby Products stuff, as it looks wonderful... I've just never seen it in the flesh, as it were (in the lead?), and am hesitant to make the investment sight unseen.

I've played around a bit with wargame design, and have adapted one of my designs, Itty Bitty Battles, to miniatures using 6mm fantasy figures and a hexmat system. The Empires game looks like a similar concept on a different scale... I'm intrigued.

Walt lured me into this contest with the promise of free fezes.

It doesn't hurt that I've painted thousands of 15mm figures. Over the years I've played HOTT, DBx, ARES, Fantasy Rules!, AD&D Battle System, and most recently Armies of Arcana.

Empires provides an interesting meta-level for a campaign using the same miniatures. That and Walt is a gas to game with!
