(Note that this army list is intended for use with the following rules: Command & Colors by Richard Borg. Command & Colors, though a boardgame played on a hex board with units represented by blocks, can also be played on the tabletop. I use a regular tabletop without hexes, with each reference to hex in the rules equating to 6" on the tabletop. For units, I use any pleasing grouping of figures, applying hits using markers instead of removing figures or stands. The numbers of figures are merely suggestions. DBx-style stands could be used equally well, with each stand being the equivalent to a Hit. I generally use a modified version of the rules, these additions are listed at the end.) The Royal Army of OlogogThe Amazon Queendom of Ologog maintains a large army built around a core of professional legions - the Royal Household and the Queen's Army - and filled out with a levy of troops drawn from the Provinces near to the area of each specific campaign. Temple guards from the Bull Cult and the Temple of the Laughing God occasionally join the army on campaign. Contingents of Satyrs and Centaurs are often found as allies. The Royal Household:When the Queen herself goes on campaign, she is accompanied by troops of the Royal Household. These consist of Guard Cataphracts and Guard Infantry legions. There are three legions of Guard Infantry, each drawn from one of the heartland provinces. Normally only one accompanies the Queen on campaign, however. 0-1 Queen's Guard Cavalry12 x 100MYT21 Amazon Cataphract cavalry 0-1 Queen's Guard Infantry24 x Guard Infantry selected from either:
The different shield designs serve to differentiate each legion. Choose the design you prefer. For Officers, 100YAN03 (Gurék of Tléku Miriyá female officer), can be used with the appropriate shield. The Queen's Army:These legions are also drawn from the Provinces, and maintain their provincial identity in the shields borne. Select 1-5 units from the following list. Each unit should be 24 figures strong. Only one each of the archer and crossbow units may be taken. The crossbow unit may be provided with pavises. For Officers, 100YAN03 (Gurék of Tléku Miriyá female officer), can be used with the appropriate shield.
100YAN27 Gurék of the Valiant of Ke’ér medium trooper, morning star The Provincial Levy:The levy tends to be highly variable. Each Provincial Governor is accompanied a squadron of guard cavalry and the nobles from the province fight from chariots in the traditional manner. Light peltast cavalry are available in large numbers, but the bulk of the army consists of unarmoured (and often nude) Amazons, who fight either as peltasts, archers or slingers. In times of great need a levy of males may be made. These troops fight only reluctantly and are untrained. 0-1 Governor's Guard Cavalry:12 x 100MYT20 Amazon heavy cavalry 1-3 Noble Chariotry Squadrons:3 x 100MYT20 Amazon chariot Levy Troops:1-5 Light Cavalry Squadrons:12 x 100AMZ12 Amazon light peltast cavalry 1-3 Peltast units per Provincial Legion in the Queen's Army12-20 x 100AMZ04 Amazon peltast and/or 100AMZ05 Amazon nude peltast 1-3 Archer units12-20 x 100AMZ06 Amazon archer and/or 100AMZ07 Amazon nude archer 1-3 Slinger units12 x 100AMZ08 Amazon nude slinger 1-3 Axewomen units20 x 100AMZ09 Amazon axewoman Male Levy:0-1 Pikeman unit20-30 x 100HAW01 Hawaiian Pikeman 0-2 Slinger units12 x 100HAW02 Hawaiian Slinger 0-3 Warrior units with hand weapons20-30 x 100HAW03 Hawaiian Warrior w. hand weapons Temple Contingents:Both the Bull Cult and the Temple of the Laughing God sometimes take the field. The Bull Cult supplies a unit of Warrior Priestesses that is often accompanied by a herd of Sacred Oxen. This herd is driven in a wild charge into the enemies ranks. The Laughing God provides a legion of Temple Guards, consisting of archers and spearwomen. 0-1 Bull Cult Warrior Priestesses24 x 100AMZ10 Amazon Royal Guard axewoman May be accompanied by:0-1 Sacred Herd12 x 100ANM02 Ox Note: the Sacred Herd can only be taken if the Bull Cult is used. 0-1 Temple of the Laughing God12 x 100TSO15 Legion of Sérqu, Sword of the Empire female trooper The Temple Guards form a unit with spears in the front, two ranks, and archers in the rear ranks. First off, I use 28mm figures on a regular wargames table. Basically, all references in the rules to "hexes" are changed to read "six inch increment". So a movement rate of 2 hexes becomes 12", for example. Each unit takes hits depending upon its armour: Unarmoured/Shield Only - 3 hits Medium Armour - 4 hits Heavy Armour - 5 hits Units designated as "Sword Units" hit on Swords (using the special dice provided in the game). Units that are Steady ignore one Flag roll per attack. Units are supported if they have two friendly units within 6". Supported units ignore one flag per attack. Lances, Pikes and Long spears allow the wielder to strike first. A Cavalry Breakthrough is a free 6" move forward (or wheeling) that can be made after defeating a unit in melee. Any enemy unit within 6" after this move may immediately be charged. Reluctant troops never count as supported.
