Ghosts of Gettysberg

Spirits, Apparitions and Haunted Places of the Battlefield

81 pages. Acknowledgements, introduction, notes. Map on back cover.

This is the original book in the Ghosts of Gettysburg series (now up to eight volumes), which has launched ghost memorabilia, ghost tours, and the designation of Gettysburg as the most haunted battlefield.

This is a compilation of ghostly reports, mostly from the time of the famous battle, organized geographically. The book necessarily includes much of the history of the battle and its aftermath. The author is a former Gettysburg park ranger and historian.

For example, the chapter on the Devil's Den reviews how it got its name, briefly recounts the fighting there and some interesting anecdotes, tells of park visitors who have spotted a vanishing 'hippie' at Devil's Den, and reports mysterious camera failures there.

Can you wargame it? Probably not, unless you're doing a ghost-hunting adventure.

A quick, fun read, especially if you know the area. Not overly sensational.
