I have just assembled 4 Tribal Class destroyers to play with my 1/1200 scale E Boats. Anyone know a good on-line painting reference? I am looking for early war English Channel or Med schemes.

I have had very good luck using Google Images and just typing in HMS XXXXX. It can be a bit hit and miss but run through the names Cossack, Eskimo, Ashanti, Zulu, Tartar etc. and you'll hit some useful stuff. Some quick googling yielded -

Failing that, I strongly recommend the 'Painters Guide to WW2 Naval Camouflage'. It is available from a number of sources and I know the Seawarstore carries it.

Heres an "Artic run" (above: I assume Russian Convoy?) scheme, and a med scheme (below):

Did you use the old Airfix 1/1200, or something else? How were they?

McKinstry: That looks like a nice book. Does it cover smaller vessels? I'm interested in Coastal forces.

almark did an excellent book on RN WW2 campuflage that covers all types down to coastal forces. There is also a Squadron / Signal book on RN CF craft that has some very nice colour plates (their volumes on PT boats and S Boats are also very good)

Autos da fe – It does cover the DD's and smaller but it probably has the bulk of its' focus on fleet units.

Thanks for the links. They are about what I am after.

Yes, they are the old Airfix ones. I picked them up for next to noting at a flea market last year and have finally gotten around to putting them together.

Eventually, I will probably pick up the camo guide, but the budget is a little too tight right now.

I have numerous sources on British destroyer schemes. If you can be a little more specific on what period or region you want to paint your ships too, I will help.

Just sent them to you direct Cold Steel.

I'm in the same position,
got a bunch of Airfix Tribals and three Mountford F-G-H,
that I like to paint as they looked during Norwegian campaign.
Could you give some advice on how they where painted and what colors to use?

Some day I'll get together all German and British warships that took part. Started 30 years ago and I might complete during any of the next decades.

Cheers
