Always on the look out for a colorful new period, I've been considering doing a Timurid/White Sheep Turk match up in 25/28mm. Has anyone seen the Amazon Timurid figures? How do they compare to the nice Molniya or OG castings?

Recently, though, I noticed that the Kublai Khan actually fought the Khmer and Champa in Indochina. How's that for a colorful match-up? I've heard that Amazon do a Khmer range that might work (purchased from a company called SKT?), but cannot find them on their web site. Does anyone have any experience with these figures or know if they are still available? Is The Assault Group still going to produce medieval Indochinese figures someday?

Thanks

I think that Amazon sold off the SKT line to "Garrison Miniatures". Check the TMP Manufacturers listing.

Garrison is an old line from back in the 70s that had Khmer in the spinoff SKT range in the 80s. The figures still hold up well versus "modern" ranges, I think.
The new "Garrison" manufacturer has resurrected the grand old lines under the old name.

If the Manufacturer's listing is up to date, you should be able to track them down through either "Garrison" or "SKT".

John is correct: the former SKT Khmer should have gone to the phoenix "Garrison", which is working steadily to restore the very extensive catalog.

They don't seem to be available yet, so an e-mail to express your interest and intent to buy is likely to move them along more quickly.

I had some of these from Greenwood and Ball/Garrison back in the mists of antiquity. Additional figures that I got later form Amazon showed that the moulds had held up pretty weell, although there seemed to be some bits in the multi-part chariots that had gone astray.

The best of the SKT ranges seemed to foreshadow the bulkier 28mm figures of the 90s, and they should also go well with the Dixon/Curteys style of Asians, if you like that sort of thing. You might want to request samples when they are available, though, as some of the SKT sculpts suffered from peculiarly withered lowere limbs: the torso, head, arms. etc would be robust, but the legs would be short, spindly, and teetering on little feet. All the Khmer that I have are the better sort of sculpt.

I have the army by SKT and Allen and John a correct in the lower legs having less robust definition than the upper torso. The "long jacketed" infantry are a bit better than the unarmored/non-jaketed,archers are the best of the infantry. The "Dragon armor " on the horses is well done. The command elephants are the best with the back seat parasol bearer and the derail on the howdah. Sory to hear the chariot hasn't held up, as the scroll work on the earlier ones I have is very nice. Oh, the maiden guard, both foot and mounted are there. The size will fit with todays OG, Foundry and most other 27mm types. I've even mixed in some Irregular Miniatures from the same period; keeping them in their own units.

That would be "..The Archers are the best sized of the infantry." And of course "…detail on the howdah.." and "…Sorry to hear."

The problem I had with the chariots when Amazon did them was with the horses. Garrison/SKT had originally done them with nicely caparisoned horses. Apparently Amazon had not been able to match up the correct horses (to be fair, reconstructing the old ranges without catalogs or photos must have been a nightmare!), and supplied other, plainer horses. The scrollwork on the cab components was clear and crisp.

I agree with Ogdenlulimus's comments on specific figures; well noted.

Thanks for all the responses. I'll have to wait and see what Garrison does.

Possibly found chariot horse, picture on front of my site if anyone can id. It has got K stamped on the base and looks like it could be the right figure, though it also suggests one of a pair.
