Many years ago I saw some concept art for a naval boarding party trooper. He was equipped with a shotgun and boarding gaff. He was wearing a crude looking vacc suit. I am considering a scratch built heavily converted naval boarding party for Space Hulk. I need the art for reference so any help would be appreciated. |

Is this what you were thinking of Dragon Gunner? Your post jogged my memory: These were in White Dwarf 140, marked as by Jes Goodwin: picture This was in White Dwarf 139 by John Blanche: picture Hope they're what you're after. |

Yes, those are the pics that spring to my mind with Dragon Gunner's description. We want to see this army when you are done! |

Buyaki? As in Jason? You still working for GW? |

Thank You Barakvarr that is exactly what I was looking for. |

If I remember correctly GW did do the figs in 28mm of Imperial Naval charecters as linked by Barakvarr. I also remember ship command figures. These were limited production. |

Yeah, I've got some of those naval minis somewhere
but only a handful. I always wondered
In that picture of the boarding action
it seems as though they are outside, yet not in vacuum (given the Inquisitor's lack of vac suit). It suggest the boarding party on a sailing ship
ready to swing across the gap onto the enemy decks. Other pictures (from spacefleet articles in WD) showed folks working outside with huge utility robots. I'm wondering if they're meant to have some forcefield around parts of the ship that hold in the atmosphere
Then again, I always liked the picture of the assault pods gripping onto the hull and cutting their way through. Either way, an assault on a big BFG ship would be very much like invading a city, and could be a skirmish campaign unto itself

Yes, you are correct and I'm now at GF9. Wise career move, that. How long you been free? |

"In that picture of the boarding action

A tip for those scanning from magazines, turn the art to a 30 or 45 degree angle on your scanner bed and then rotate it back in your image editing program to avoid generating the moire pattern in the scans |

Dewbakuk, So it is! And all these years I'd thought it was a boarding party
Hmm
wonder where I got that idea? So, how does a boarding team get into the enemy ship anyhow? |
Dewbakuk | 27 Dec 2006 4:03 a.m. PST |
In BFG? Short range teleports, boarding torpedoes, assault boats and some dedicated small ships such as the Ork Brute Ram Ship. |

15 months now. Hi Doc, from CDN right? Rich, I think I know who you are, but I do know quite a few Richs. Did you used to have a winter Imperial Guard army back in the late 90s? You know, I've always wanted to build some conversions of the models Dragon Gunner speaks of. There's an old pic of a Imperial Guardsmen dressed for winter combat (found in 2nd ed rulebooks) that I've dearly loved. I could see elements of that uniform jammed into the project for heavy and cold space combat. |

Rich, I think I know who you are, but I do know quite a few Richs. Did you used to have a winter Imperial Guard army back in the late 90s? Not guilty. I'm no one you'd remember, just a former associate of a couple of your old Outrider crew, both of whom have since gone on to other things. You and I met briefly at the 99 Baltimore Games Day while I was filling in for one of them who couldn't make it. As I recall, you told me not to disgrace the name of Games Workshop while I was running events for them. Pretty much the funniest thing I heard all weekend. Made you kind of stand out in my mind, and Buyaki isn't a common name, you know? Rich |

Ha! That IS good for a laugh. I guess you did alright that weekend then too! Ah the Outrider crew was a fine group, done in by some rampant corporatism. |

Ha! That IS good for a laugh. I guess you did alright that weekend then too! Ran three games for GW (under an assumed name, no less), took home a fair amount of cheap pewter and a throbbing headache. Not an awful weekend, but it did convince me never to attend another Games Day. The monster truck rally of the gaming world
I prefer my conventions with some actual gaming, rather than just shouting a lot. Ah the Outrider crew was a fine group, done in by some rampant corporatism. I was a little surprised the program lasted as long as it did. At its peak it was a very useful tool for both GW and indy retailers (which I was in 1999) but watching it collapse under the pressure from Upper Management was painful even from outside. Still died a better death than some of the programs I've been involved in
the Warzone and Clan War debacles spring to mind. Rich |
