Gar and I visited the HEART OF THE SOUTH toy miniatures show last weekend. This is the second one of these we've visited in about six months. I was quietly and respectfully astonished at some of the prices being charged for individual figures. Mind you, they are worth every penny of that. It's just a different hobby. So if you are whining about the high cost of wargaming, check out what the other side does some time, and how much it costs!

Walt have you not been watching Ebay lately? Some 15mm figures go for that much (40-50 A foot) Just look at the FOW from Warpainter, A few of the Command Mounted figures from painters etc. I have found painted 25mm to be a real bargin at less than $10 USD a foot compaired to what some 15s are going for these days.

HA! I go to those shows. There is another in NY this weekend. I love the flat chipped guys in glass cases. Thos amaze me with how gruesome they are yet people still blow the cobwebs off them and collect them.

I think the top end is having the Perry brothers sculpt you your own ANZACs.

if my figs don't move around they get bored.

who pays for minis to sit around?

Thanks for the pics.

I've actually got "15mm figures" in as a filter in ebay, and I know you can certainly pay that price for painted armies, but I dunno about individual figures….

Does that rise to the "more money than brains" category?

Yeah, Peter Jackson is one lucky guy!

Definitely not the top end. Occassionaly GW figure painted by elite painters will crack 4 figures.

Double Ace06 Dec 2006 11:38 a.m. PST

That definitely qualifies as more money than brains…..

Not according to their packaging. "This is not a toy".

I picked up some 54mm Frontline Napoleonics to round out my collection for $9 USD each painted. Still some great deals to be had if you look. On the other hand my Lucottes are out of hand with the Euro out of control.

I just don't think they look that good. I mean, I have seen some that look great, but most of the "collector" ones I've seen wouldn't pass for tabletop quality with most gamers i know.

Some of my comments are tongue in cheek here. The big box of dented and chipped OLD soldiers "If it was good enough for H.G. Wells, it's good enough for me" was going for a king's ransom.

My piece of crap camera doesn't do justice to some of these, esp the Nazi Party rally set at the end and the Russian tableau figures towards the middle.

This is why I buy my figures in nice cheap boxes of 50 in soft plastic. I just don't have the funding to build up an army at the prices the quality metals cost unpainted, much less painted. I think half the reasons gamers have so many unpainted figures is because we have no time to paint them, and no money to pay someone else to paint them. I have to admit, when you consider how much time it takes to paint them, I can't fault someone for some of the prices. Though, I think I can fault just fine the 4 digit costs mentioned. :>

Beautiful figures and stunning prices

I will never forget the *&5!#*!! gamer at Little Wars who picked up a 20mm pewter figure priced at 82 Cents and said "too Damn expensive"
