link A couple of years ago I did some research into various ships that were used by the Italian navy on the run across the Mediterranean to North Africa. This also involved their camouflage schemes. I have posted them at the above line, so that if anyone is interested they can look at them to get an idea of how to paint theirs. Some of the ships were painted straight from 1:3000 scale models already available, while others were altered from ships of that type. One or two were completely scratch built. I hope this is of help to anyone doing WW2 in the MED. Mal.Wright. |

Very useful for me. I didn't realize their merchant/auxilliary vessels had used the barber pole decks as well. |

Nice paint job. I hadn't realized that the Italians made that much use of camo. Most of the photos I've seem of warships appear to be light gray with the r/w stripe job on the fore deck. I'll have to revise my plans for my little squadron of cruisers. |

Mal, Every time I think I've gotten rid of that urge to do later periods, you post more photos. Damn you, sir! :-) Seriously though, what brand of 1/3000 ships are you using, Navwar or Skytrex? BWW |

I use both brands, but mostly Navwar. As for camouflage, by 1941 there were more painted that way than just grey. I posted some cruiser photos in the report on our Mediterranean battle, but could put up some specific ones if you want. The red and white barber pole stripes were somewhat necessary as otherwise the Regina Aeronautica bombed anything that moved. :-))) |
