Picked up a bunch of the Valiant galleys while on 50% off. Now I am looking for a fairly simple ancient galley ruleset. Maybe something similar to GW's "Man o' War" rules (I might even go with them)
something that doesn't require written orders, but is fast, fun and gives some flavor! Thanks! |

GW's Man O' War. The only GW game that I really enjoy. What a hoot! |

Try GMT's War Galley. It has just been reprinted and while technically a board wargame, could easily be converted to miniatures. It is a fleet level game so you can play big battles and plays very quickly. |

LeCoqFou, You and I must be on the same wavelength or something. First we did the Renaissance at the same time, now its ancients! There was something else we were doing at the same time too but I don't remember. Too bad you are not in North Texas. |

Corvus from SoA is pretty good. also, from Black Dog I'd recommend their From Galley to Galleon rules which are very fast play and capable of supporting larger combats. |

We always had great fun with "Trireme." |

If you are still looking, our game "Blood and Bronze" is nearing final production. It is a miniatures-based ancient naval battle game that plays quickly much like "Man O'War" and doesn't get bogged down as easily as some other systems. Drop me an email and I'll give you more information. dsherwood@netrax.net Regards, Derek P.S. We also stock Xyston and Skytrex 1/600th galleys for use with our games. |

Corvus would be my recommendation – especially as it comes with a complete set of nice colour 1:600th scale counters so you can get playing straight away I mounted the counters on 4mm MDF, and painted the backs blue with a wrecked boat outline, so you denote wrecks just by flipping the counters. I also scanned the sheet and produced four more '5's so I have enough ships for all the squadrons in the rule book. |

Thanks for the tips on rules, everyone. |

Pyruse I,ve played Corvus right from the start but always with models. Richard and I always know how many ships are lost from each side because he paints his bases and I do not. Markers replaced turning the models over but as a sugestion how about placing a colour mark on the underside of the ship markers so that you can readily tot up the victory points |
