Yep. That was me! TMP link Now, if there was a way to attach THAT head/jaws to THIS body, I think we would have the closest thing to the Graboids in the first movie! Thanks for remembering, DWW!!! CC |

Nice, I'll have to pick up a few of those for an eventual Tremors game. I already have a handful of Reaper's Astral Maulers: link They're no longer shown on the Reaper website, so I wonder if they were pulled for being too close in concept to the Ethereal Marauders? (Pretty close in name, too.) One of my "to-dos" is grafting some Mongoose Starship Trooper Bug mouthparts onto the front of a Sculpey Graboid body. One of these days

DWW, that Ethereal Marauder is pretty close to the bipedal graboids: link Jpattern, is this what you have in mind (the underground kind)? link link link CC |

The shrieker from Tremors II. You'll also need the flying one from Tremors III link and the nymph stage one from Tremors IV. |

I like that figure. There are several critters I'll be grabbing from "Blood Wars". |

Has anyone ordered from Popular Collections before? I hit a button to "e-mail to a friend" and was sent to a "set up your own site" site. That makes me a bit leery. |
artslave | 01 Nov 2006 10:35 a.m. PST |
Mysterioso, I have ordered much from them. Except for the highish shipping (UPS) they are very good. I have never had a slip-up, mixed up figure or delay. I have combined many different and various clicks, and they have always got it right and fast. They are not unique in the required account set-up thing. |

Yes, CC, I have photos that I grabbed from the Web of the Graboid action figure that I plan to use when I sculpt my 28mm version. One problem: I don't have a lot of spare time, and Tremors is pretty low on my priority list. Another problem: My sculpting skillz just ain't too good. :) |

Jpattern, I might try tinkering too in the meantime. I have more time these days (at least for the next 3 weeks or so). What size do you think they should they be (in cm or mm) to match up with 28mm humans? CC |
jpattern | 01 Nov 2006 4:00 p.m. PST |
Based on multiple viewings of all the movies, the TV shows, and the toys, I'd say a typical graboid is about 30 feet long, about 4 feet wide at the head (wider in the middle, maybe about 7 feet), and about 3-12 feet high at the head (about the same in the middle). When they burst up from the ground, maybe 4-5 feet is exposed. Based on a 28mm human, I'd say about 25mm wide and 20mm top-to-bottom would be about right, with maybe 28mm out of the ground, with half of that being jaws. |

Wouldn't it make more sense to use something like a "torpedo marker" when they're travelling underground, and a head sticking up from the ground when they attack? How often would you need a full size Graboid? |
Mysterioso | 01 Nov 2006 6:38 p.m. PST |
Artslave: Thanks. The link was not to an account set-up but a buy your own URL deal. How ever hearing from someone who has ordered and seeing there is a telephone number listed on the site is much more reassuring. Are the Ethereal Marauders prepainted click-type figures? They look it. Sad to hear that the Reaper figures are gone. |

". . . about 30 feet long . . ." So, if completely above ground, they should be about 150mm (5 x 30mm human)? CC |

I wonder how big these are: auction CC |

The new WotC Ethereal Marauder is a pre-painted plastic, yes. Barring the mishaps associated with assembly line manufacturing, it is actually pretty good looking. Reaper doesn't have a license, but cheerfully dances around some of the D&D standards with vaguely familiar names very similar to what smaller manufacturers get taken to task for doing by TMPers at least once a week. Presumably WotC recognizes that slapping Reaper would be bad for everybody, so there is likely some sort of phonecall during the development of each of the WotC pre-painted sets that lets Reaper know which models are now off-limits. |
