Boardwalk Hobby Shop in Mt. Lookout Square (Hyde Park) is my favorite. Good selection of paints, brushes, tools, glues, some figures hanging on the wall, and they can order others.

Not in Cincy, but try Wexford Hill Hobbies in Dayton. (about 30-45 min north) It's a large store with a big selection of fantasy as well as GW. Not much stock for historicals, but what store is these days. They run alot and I mean, alot of games there. They have 12-14, 6' by 4' game tables in the store. On Sat and/or Sun a guy named Arron and his crew are in a side room painting mini's.
They can give her tips.

Just an FYI, Grandiosity warweb.com is about 45 mins north of there.

There is also Comic Book World in Florence, KY. Its maybe a 10 minute drive from downtown Cincy. They have a good variety of Fantasy minis.

Oops, here is Comic Book World's address & phone:

7130 Turfway Rd.
Florence, KY

Yep, Comic Book World has quite a bit, primarily GW and Reaper, but some other stuff, but I hope they'll forgive me if I say of the choices listed, Wexford Hill Hobbies really has anywhere in the Cincinnati area beat for miniatures.

I went up there not too long ago, chasing a deal, and was amazed by sheer size and stocklist. Though I can understand how a 2-hour round trip might be offputting. Not sure I'll get back there any time soon.

For what it's worth.

Boardwalk is a nice shop – more a traditional hobby shop focusing on model kits – but some gaming stuff.

Comic Book World is nice as well more emphasis on comics – used to have several locations

I'd check out Acme Games (7121 Salem Road, Cincinnati, OH, 45230) – more of a game oriented store than the others. My favorite.

Nord's Games at Northgate Mall carries everything Reaper.

Acme games in Beechmont – loads of GW, some Starship Troopers.

Wexford Hill in Kettering – worth the drive!

Here's a rundown of everything in Cincinnati:

Comic Book World – the only FLGS in Northern Kentucky. Carries mainly GW, but has a little bit of Privateer Press and Reaper. Carries GW and Reaper Master Series paints.

comicbookworld.com

Acme Games – located in SW Cincinnati. Carries GW, Privateer Press and a little bit of Starship Troopers. Carries GW and VGC paints.

acmegames.com

The World of Hobbies and Games – located in northern Cincinnati off I-275 and the Mosteller Road exit. Carries GW, Privateer Press and a little bit of Reaper which they sell at a discount. Carries GW, VGC, Testors and Tamiya paints. It is a full-scale 'hobby shop' featuring model kits, RC planes and cars and has a large indoor racing track for RC cars.

theworldofhobbies.com

Violet Votex Games – More of a CGC/LAN gaming store than a miniatures store located in Milford. They have some old Reaper, Privateer Press and Crocodile Games miniatures collecting dust in the back of the store along with some VGC paints.

violetvortex.com

Yottaquest – Carries a handful of miniatures. I've not been in the store recently but the last time I was there all they had in any amount was Starship Troopers. They also had some Adicolor paints.

yottaquest.com

Nord's Games – Located in Northgate Mall. Carries a large selection of boardgames. Carries an extremely large selection of Reaper (they were orginally owned by Reaper). They also carry Battletech and some GW products. They also have the complete line of Reaper Master series paints which makes it worth the drive for me.

nordsgames.com

Cincinnati Sci Fi – Located in West Chester, just north of Cincinnati. Avoid like the plague. Last time I was in there you had to crawl over the Yu-Gi-OH players to get to the GW miniatures that hadn't been dusted in years and then had to wait 10 minutes for the clerk to finish reading his comic book to even realize that I was waiting to pay for the miniature I was 'liberating' from that sorry excuse for an FLGS. Only go there if you are looking for toys from the '80s.

Hope this helps!

Gee, I'm surprised that so many people on here know what's up in Cincy. How many of you are in/around Cincinnati?

Jeff Wilhelm, of Dragon Forge Design, has been trying to get a painting group going at the World of Hobbies and Games for a while now. I've not been able to make it to any sessions yet though.

Jeff's a greater painter/sculptor and it might be worth your friends time to check into his group.

I asked my love to take a walk,
To take a walk, just a little walk,
Down beside where the waters flow,
Down by the banks of the Ohio.

And only say that you'll be mine,
And with no other's arms entwine,
Down beside where the waters flow,
Down by the banks of the Ohio.

Yep, Jeff Wilhelm is a great painter. I attended a couple of his painting classes he held at Comic Book World in Florence several years ago.

As much as I would love to get to some of his painting sessions, my schedule just will not allow it right now.
