From Foundry Pygmies to Homo Floresiensis clan:

I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

As you will remember, I have been planning this for a while:

I hope you are not disappointed. Thanks.

Really, really nice! IIRC, you added the brow ridges and the hair. If so, kudos! I personally pictured HF with slightly darker pigmentation but the painter's job is top notch.

Did you ever get the gigantic rats to go with them?

Cacique Caribe13 Sep 2006 8:48 p.m. PST

Mysterioso,

Thanks, and yes to the brow ridges and hair. I had to keep myself busy while I was out of town.

I am still working on picking out the right rats.

What did you think of the lurker in the woods?

Absolutely fantastic

Any chance you'll post some pictures on the displaced miniatures website? I don't join Yahoo groups very often, so I miss out.

Cacique Caribe14 Sep 2006 6:09 a.m. PST

NYCJadie,

I know I set up a Displaced Miniatures account but, for the life of me, it has been so long that I cannot remember how to sign on to it.

The "Help Page" link at the bottom of the FAQ takes me nowhere:

I give up.

I finally got in, changed my password and created a Floresiensis Gallery, but it will not let me add any of the photos. I keep getting an error message every time.

I just sent Brad an email.

Brad sure replies fast.

I think he is right in that I am exceeding the 150k limit per photo. The photos I added to our Yahoo Group range from 730k-850k.

I will play with it some more later tonight.

so thats the problem I must be doingf that as well

Mysterioso14 Sep 2006 7:25 a.m. PST

Yeah, I did see the Komodo Dragon. Nicely done. Nice terrain disks too.

BTW, way back when you were first planning these guys we corresponding about HF, I mentioned the National Geographic issue with HF. Now that I am back at work, I have easy access. The issue is April 2005. There are great paintings on pages 4-5 (very similar to your picture with the Komodo Dragon) & 12 as well as a forensic reconstruction featured on the cover. Worth finding if you did not before.

Ha-ha, I love the Komodo/Megalania! "Be vewy quiet, I'm hunting Fwowesiensiseseses."

Beautiful conversions, beautiful paint jobs. Well done, CC.

Hey, how's your nephew doing after his appendectomy?

Cacique Caribe14 Sep 2006 9:14 a.m. PST

Thanks! Chris is doing great.

The paint job is actually "child labor" (if you can call a 16/17 year old a child any longer), by a different nephew altogether (Michael).

He did a great job on the Reaper/Pulp Neanderthals, the Copplestone Sapiens and now the Foundry Pygmies (Floresiensis). Oh yes. He is also the one that painted all my lions, tigers and bears!

He is getting better and better with each job.

OK how do you shrink a picture dwon? wouldnt they end up like tiny paostage stamps. I know I sound dense but I am very green when it comes to digital photos

Cacique Caribe16 Sep 2006 12:15 p.m. PST

Good question!

Ok. I've added some of the photos to my Flickr account:

Here is another one, from a Russian scienctific site:

I guess that Michael Feyjoo (my painter) wasn't so far off when he painted my H. Floresiensis.

Some of the photos on my Flickr folder show plants:

Most of them are simple aquarium plants from our local PetSmart ("Aquarium Systems" brand), like this one:

I tried some of the Pegassus palms for "Saw Palmetto":

However, I think that from now on aquarium plants are the way for me.

They are rigid enough to stay upright on bases, plus they are flexible enough to allow figures to be hidden in between, without the risk of scratching the figures or popping of their weapons.

Hope this helps.

The same plants can be seen here:

So you need some 10mm cavemen for your hobbits it would seem!

Beautiful work as usual, C.C.!

Guys,

Here is a brand new, but not-so-work-friendly, reconstruction of what H.F. might have looked like:

I guess I wasn't so far off the mark:
