Anyone out there know anything about Alpha Miniatures plans to restock their gladiator figure line? I just bought a big box of Italieri 54mm plastic gladiator figures at HISTORICON. I was so impressed with the sculpting I went to the Alpha miniatures site and bought as many single real gladiator figures as I could get my hands on (to supplement the plastic). This amounted to: Boxer 1, Boxer 2, Diamarchus (non dwarf), some spear and shield guy, some hoplommachus type figure, and one Secutor (I think!). All the other figures that I find useful are out of stock— the other diamarchus, the laquierius (spelled wrong, basically the lasso fighter), their version of a retiarus, Myrmidon, etc. There's no notice on the Alpha Miniatures site about when these figures will be back in stock again. I dropped them a note of inquiry with my recent order but they did not respond.

I received the figures in good time and am very much impressed with them— they are a perfect match for the Italieri set. So no complaints here about their excellent service, I just want to buy MORE from them.

Point two: Does anyone know of similar Ancient figures that might do well in an arena setting? They would have to be 54mm and of an appropriate time period (though not neccesarily Greek and or Roman). Suggestions, EVEN IF THEY ARE PLASTIC FIGURES, are much appreciated by me.

Just a little project I've always wanted to try. Your help is appreciated.

Walt

Bad news – they are closing: TMP link

Good news - someone bought the rights.

Walt,

Alpha is going out of business. So what you see on the homepage is what they have left. I got my Legionary, Aux. Standart bearer and 3 Gladiators in the mail on Friday.

It is really sad to see them go… very nice stuff!

Cheers,

Wow, timing is everything I guess!!

Actually I found three that I didn't buy last time that were "borderline".. I just snagged them as fast as I could type…

Good for you Walt! I was a bit dissapointed that I did not get the Centurio I wanted… only to put the new arrivals in the "to do" box and see that he was already in there! So I am quite happy as well, especially since I do not need that many (just painting them for the showcase)!

Cheers,

Burkhard

Yes, the rights are sold and should be to someone in the US who has yet to make an announcement but should soon.

That is very cool, I discovered them late and would like to get some of their Romans to compliment the Gladiators I bought.

Great looking figs, this was my first foray into 54mm!
