Back in about 1979, a group of us from York regularly visted the Citadel Factory, then located in Newark. Amongst my 'buys' were a couple of dozen or so mounted Huns. (Models A1 to A9 in their 'Huns range). I have always believed these to be the work of the Perry Twins albeit that they are a touch crude in some of the sculpting. Still, I suppose the had to learn somewhere! Recently I have gamed again with these figures and am no longer sure that these are the work of the Perry's. Anyone know who else did, or might have sculpted them? Thanks Mike B |

Well, Foundry catalog (the old booklet size one) says the twins did them. But it could be an international conspiracy and all that

I have a couple of the foot figures and I'm pretty sure they are by the twins. I believe the Foundry ones are much later sculpts though (could be wrong). |

I'm sure they are the work of the twins |

There was a very nice Dark Ages range around that time. I wish it were still available. They were "true 25mm" Vikings, Byzantines, Normans, etc. I had about a third of an army on the Byzantines. Too bad I could get no more, so I sold them off. I still have a lot of the Vikings which I intend to rebase for LOTR or Pig Wars. |

Hi I was sometimes gaming with various people involved in importing the figs and molds. I was told at the time that they were products of the Perry twins. I have a LOT of them. My favorite is the one where the hun has a nubile naked "maid" over the saddle! Rocky |

I have the 2000 Foundry Ancients catalogue; judging from the pics, several of the older Perry-sculpted ranges don't measure up to their current (Perry Miniatures) offerings. Seems they have improved a lot over the years. William Pitt: if you're talking about the old Foundry Vikings and Normans, they're still available. |

I bought a couple of hundred huns on a similar visit to Citadel (nice people even ran off some extra figures when the stock ran out). Did you see their saracens I have 300 and they are simply wonderful. I thought both sets were Perry's work. |

They ran some off? Odd. I was informed by a chap who answered to Mr. Ansell's description at a Historicon or Cold Wars years ago that the molds and rights were lost in a divorce settlement. At least the Dark Ages were. This would be around 1996 or so, when I was jsut getting back into the hobby and thought to fill out some armies. Are those figures actual "Citadel" figures, from the 80's? The strangest stories come from Foundry, don't they? |

Yup. It's like a communist country with closed borders: lots of people flee from it, there are many wild rumors about what's happening there, but nobody seems to really know what's going on. |

Looking for some of these old Huns A1-A10. If anybody has some they would like to sell, let me know! |

Nighthawk, my cut and paste skills are weak. Figs mad in the early 80's under Citadel, then made under Ral Partha Imports line. All calvary, horses loaded with gear, heads, etc. 25mm Pictures are under the Stuff of legends site. |

I've got an army of them, mostly painted. And citadel Romans too. Definitely Perry's. I mentioned the fact I still had them to the Perry's at warlord games day a few years back. They gave a polite but quizzical look to my suggestion that they were fantastic. They were ground breaking at the time! |

Are the current Foundry Huns updates of the sculpts? The Hun "looters" pack has a mounted warrior with a captive female in the same basic pose, does it not? |

There's a lot of similarity, but the citadel huns are quite a bit smaller. |

So, Citadel are/were more 25mm, and Foundry are like "the rest," now tending to the "Heroic," and so 28mm -- though not yet given in to "Heroic 28," which seems to trend to 30mm to 32mm? |

Thanks for the link. Anyone in the US have a couple of the Hex Shield Roman Cavalry? I have ONE (1) in a "Ral Partha Imports" blister, need two more to make a DBx Element. |

Panfilov, I may have a few. I will check. |

Panfilov, I have 2 of the Hex Shield Romans. If you still want them, I have them in the original Ral Partha bulk pack- small black and white box. You can have them, if you are in the states. Just keep me in mind if you come across some of the huns from the same time frame in the future. Send your address to me at hankkasprzak at yahoo. |
