I made it to Richmond VA with a small box of figures to convert in my spare time, including some epoxy putty and my Foundry pygmies . . . . . . to start my H. Floresiensis project: TMP link TMP link I will probably change some of the loincloths to straw skirts, and replace the weapons with stone-tipped spears and throwing sticks. However, what am I to do with the HAIR? Should they have afros, go curly or have long wavy hair? Suggestions? Thanks. CC |

According to this article, they were around as recent as 18,000 years ago, which means that they must have been around when Sapiens made it down to Australia: link I want to, eventually, play out some hypothetical encounters. CC link |

National Geographic artwork had them with curly hair IIRC. |

Given their close proximity to australia , can suggest a 'mullet' hairdo? :) |

Hair should be 'black' and probably straight. I have seen a variety of 'web articles (OK, including the 'Blondes will go extinct' one) that claim that all the other hair colours are advantageous mutations in Homo Sap. – that includes Han Chinese true black rather than the rest of humanities really really dark brown 'black' which is claimed to be the base colour. But without combs, scissors & shampoo, it would probably be in 'Dread Locks' like a Rastafarian – now there is an idea – Rasta Floriensis

CC: Could not get the National Geographic link you posted to come up. There was a great painting at the end of the article of HF that showed H. Floresiensis hiding behind a rock in a cave as H. Erectus entered. IIRC, the hair they gave him would be like the wavy hair seen on the Aborigines of today, a little bit pushed back from the brow, cut to base of ear in back. Hope that helps. Mysterioso, Too bad about the link. The photo showed a Floresiensis with frizzy hair. However, because the chose to do a depiction of an older specimen, it was difficult to envision what a younger member would have done with a full head of hair. CC |

CC: I know that depiction of old HF. A little "too minkey" for my tastes. Do try to rummage up the National Geographic with the painting. (It was the one that did a big story on HF.) There HF looks like a nasty who could do some damage when push come to shove. Mysterioso |

Check out these pygmies attacking a "Mokele Mbembe": picture Talk about a David and Goliath story. The same (but for real) would have happened with Floresiensis and the giant Megalania Prisca that inhabited that area. CC |

This is more likely for Floresiensis: link I think it is intriguing to think that, say 40,000 years ago, our Sapiens ancestors shared the planet with Neanderthals. What is even more exciting (in a gaming sense) is that there were other hominids they must have come across in their migrations, explorations and hunting expeditions: picture CC |

Progress so far: Loincloths are now more primitive-looking: TMP link Brow ridges and hair have been added with greenstuff. Weapons have been added, mostly spears, javelins and clubs. As soon as the greenstuff is set, they will be ready for priming and painting. Photos will be posted in our group's site. CC link |

Here is some latest news articles pointing to other possible examples of tiny humans in the Pacific (Micronesia): TMP link The faces of those seem to have been more like normal Sapiens though. CC |
